Lindsey Prieur and I at our 8th grade dance ๐
I almost stood up to share this memory of Lindsey – but I’ll share it now so I always have an awesome memory to look back on with this picture.
My dad, Keith Corwin, (who we all called Jesus or Mountain Man at the time – this will be important later in the story) took Linners and I to the Keys for Spring Break. We were 13 and my dad’s friend, Houseboat Mary (also important to this story) took us out fishing that morning, surprise, surprise, on the houseboat we rented. We had an absolute blast! We caught our dinner, but it was lunch time so we pulled up to Houseboat Mary’s favorite bar in town. The bar tender poured us water while we waited for our food and my dad and Mary ordered drinks.
Linds looks down at her water, then looks at my Dad’s drink, looks back to her water, and straight-face asked him, “Jesus – think you can turn this water into wine?” He laughs loudly and basically tells her absolutely not. Well, Mary’s response was, “Maybe Jesus can’t – but the Virgin Mary can! Bartender – bring my 22 year old niece and her friend a shot!” The bartender considers for a moment, and Mary says, “Do I need to call the owner? His number is on my speed dial.”
Bartender asks what we’ll have and after a serious discussion, our barely teenaged-selves decided on the most sophisticated drink we were aware of, “Sour Apple ๐ Pucker, please!” And so, Linners and I shared our first shot at a bar, at 13! ๐ That happened about 2 months before this picture was taken. I’ll forever be grateful for all of those memories we made together – the good, the bad, the rebellious, and the absolutely wholesome. They all shaped me ๐ Thanks for the memories, Linds! I’ll always look back on our friendship fondly.
